You can use Canva to create printable designs. These include flyers and posters, as well as banner ads, social media graphics, and logos — but is it okay?

Well, it depends on what the intended use of your design is. If you’re creating the design for personal use then there’s no issue . But if you’re doing it for professional purposes such as Upwork or Fiverr, then, there may be copyright issues…

Let’s take a look at the legality of using Canva.

Is it OK to Alter and/or Add to Canva Designs?

Canva provides you with the option of removing or attaching different elements. For example, this includes faces, logos, or text to your designs after they’ve been downloaded. You can use this as an opportunity to alter or add to your design as you wish. This is perfectly legal, so long as you have the copyright (or license) to use the face, logo, or text that’s being added. If you do not have this then it will be considered plagiarism. Most clients will consider it that way which may result in lost work.

Is it OK to Use Canva to Make Designs for Upwork and Fiverr Gig Advertisements?

Upwork (formerly Odesk) and its sister website, Fiverr, are sites where clients are able to post jobs that freelancers can choose from. These tasks range from design work like logos and banners to writing blog posts or editing videos. When you apply for a gig advertisement on either of these websites, your work will be assessed by a moderator. Then, you’re given access to the project. If your work is being used by you or someone else in an advertisement, the moderators will have no problem with it . However, they may reject your application if you’re using it as a way of circumventing copyright.

Is it OK to Use Canva to Create or Alter Website Templates?

If you’re looking to string together a few images, create a few WordPress blog posts, and you need to use Canva then it’s perfectly alright. Even though there is a word search function on Canva, it doesn’t automatically come up with a meaningful result when used by itself. As your designs are executed on the website everything will be correctly positioned and fit in perfectly.

Is it OK to Use Canva for Social Media Graphics?

Is it OK to Use Canva for Business Reporting?

If you’re a freelancer and in business, it’s fine to use Canva for reports — like invoices or profit and loss statements. The most important thing is to make sure that you are using professional quality imagery. Thus, your reports don’t look like they were designed in Canva.

Use Canva to Promote My Business?

Is it OK to Use Canva for Websites?

If you want to use it as a website, then it’s probably a good idea because Canva does have enough features to make the website look professional. You can find many free websites that are built with the same features that are available in Canva.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t have an idea what to create, simply search “templates” or “products” in the Canva app or website and see what other designers are offering.

  • Take a photo with your camera phone, crop it in Canva, change the colors using their tool presets or by using color filters, then add text and images that might be present in the photo you took.
  • Use Canva’s new “illustrations” tool to create a template version of your own work.
  • If you don’t know how to start from a blank canvas, use some existing templates and ideas from around the web or from clients’ projects that you have worked on.

However, consider your client’s needs first and then always acknowledge the source of your templates, products, or illustrations.

Now, go create your graphic designs and deliver the best quality for your clients on Upwork and Fiverr.

I am really very happy as well as feeling so very proud that despite being yourself so very knowledgeable how come you actually don’t boast it off, rather you just keep your knowledge sharing with all those people around you each as well as every time.

  2. Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so
I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say,
I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any points for newbie blog writers?
    I’d certainly appreciate it.

  3. Exceptional post however I was wondering if you could write a litte
more on this topic? I’d be very thankful if you could
elaborate a little bit more. Cheers!

  4. This design is steller! You obviously know how to
keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your
videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job.
I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
    Too cool!
